With a surge of community spirit, Nitoi villagers in Kiphire district, Nagaland, have taken a bold stand for the environment by surrendering airguns—a powerful gesture of their commitment to reducing wildlife hunting and protecting their natural heritage.
In an exemplary move for conservation, twenty airguns were handed over by the youth of Nitoi Village during the inspiring ‘Airgun Surrender Program’ held on October 2 as part of Wildlife Week 2024. Organized by the Kiphire Forest and Wildlife Division under the theme “Wildlife Conservation Through Coexistence,” this event marked a promising step toward a more sustainable future for Nagaland’s rich biodiversity.
Divisional Forest Officer Rama Shankar Prasad, leading the event, emphasized the crucial need for harmony between humans and nature. In his speech, Prasad highlighted that the future of humanity depends on living in balance with forests and wildlife and called for collective efforts to reduce human-wildlife conflict. He underscored the significance of Wildlife Week in raising awareness about the urgent need for environmental protection.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from local leaders, including ADC Kiphire Longdiba L Sangtam and Range Officer Aaron R Yimchunger.
