A two-day national seminar on GST 2.0 concluded at Zisaji Presidency College on April 15, 2026. The programme brought together professors, researchers, local leaders, and students to discuss how the new tax system will help build a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India) by 2047.
During the seminar, experts said GST 2.0, introduced in late 2025, aims to simplify taxes and support economic growth. Speakers explained that reducing tax rates and removing the 12% slab have helped families save money, while keeping essential goods in the 0–5% range. The system also promotes green growth and uses digital tools to improve transparency.
The seminar highlighted that small businesses are benefiting from easier processes such as pre-filled tax forms and faster refunds. Experts noted that these changes are helping MSMEs grow and operate more smoothly.
Focusing on the Northeast, speakers said Nagaland can gain as a consumer state. Products like Assam tea and Naga handlooms are becoming more competitive in the national market. However, concerns were raised about the “digital divide,” as many rural traders still face poor internet connectivity and lack digital skills.
Some challenges were also discussed. Experts pointed out that farming costs have increased, especially for tools and fertilizers. They also stressed the need for better infrastructure and more staff in tax departments. The high tax on luxury goods was another concern raised during the sessions.
The seminar concluded with a call for stronger grassroots implementation. Suggestions included providing GST information in local languages, improving internet access in remote areas, and further simplifying the tax system in the future.
