Kiphire: Training program on value addition of horticulture crops concludes

As part of a two-day training program on Value Addition of Horticulture Crops, 50 students from Loyola Higher Secondary School and Government Higher Secondary School attended the training today at the DHO Office, Kiphire.

Speaking on the occasion as the special guest, Lipichem, DPO, DoLR, said that horticulture was the “nerve centre of human civilization.” He also acknowledged the Government of India and the Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH), Medziphema, for the transfer of horticulture technology and its interventions in some of the remotest areas of the country. He stated that the participants were exposed to different experiences on value addition of horticulture crops, which could change the landscape of the district economy and the country as a whole.

He added, “Horticulture is as old as the Bible, dating back to the Garden of Eden, and we should all pay special attention to the locally available crops of the district.”

The resource persons, led by Dr. Bordoloi, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK Kiphire, included Dr. Manjunath, SMS (Horticulture), Dr. Sunil, SMS (Agro), Dr. Karibasappa, SMS (Pathology), and Mr. Alok Dube, SMS (Agriculture Extension). They delivered PowerPoint presentations on various aspects of horticulture and the importance of value addition.

Additionally, Smt. Esther Francis from Linsi SHG conducted a hands-on demonstration and training session on value addition of important horticulture crops for the participants.

According to the DHO, Kiphire, around 100 participants benefited during the two-day training program sponsored by CIH, Medziphema, held at the Aspirational District of India, Kiphire, Nagaland.
