The Kiphire Village Council held the inauguration of its bypass road on Thursday, with Deputy Commissioner Temsuwati Longkumer (NCS) dedicating the monolith as the special guest.
Longkumer acknowledged the efforts of the Village Council and said the project would benefit not only the village but also the wider Kiphire area. In his address, the DC said, ”Where there are roads, development follows.” He urged the villagers to construct proper drainage along the bypass to ensure the road’s durability.
Currently in a kuccha (unpaved) state, the DC advised the community to explore government schemes such as PMGSY for blacktopping the road. He said the district administration and relevant departments would assist civil bodies that work for public welfare, especially at the village level.
Longkumer also encouraged the community to maintain unity and peace, and called on the council to continue its work for the development of the village and district.
Tsidongchem, Chairman of the Kiphire Village Council, thanked the villagers and local leaders for their support. He also acknowledged the district administration’s response to the needs of the area.
He said the bypass project started in 2022 but was delayed due to some challenges. It covers a stretch of 8.1 km starting near the 16km Bridge and has reduced travel time from around 30 minutes to 15 minutes. The road is currently being used by Sumo and other light vehicles. Heavy vehicles are expected to use the route in the coming months.
Other attendees included the ADC, EAC, and Commandant of the 14 Assam Rifles.
The program was chaired by Rezila, with an invocation by the pastor of Tsoshechu, Kiphire Village Baptist Lithro. The welcome address was given by Yanglizi, GB of Kiphire Village, and the benediction by Likhumla, women pastor of Kiphire Village Baptist Lithro. The event concluded with a community lunch.
