The Wapher Village Council has strongly condemned an incident of involuntary manslaughter that occurred on 19 February 2026 at Hamro Nu (Wildlife Preservation Forest) under its jurisdiction.
The deceased, Buinet Wongto, son of Yungle, from Khudu Village, Tuensang, reportedly died due to the actions of Mr. Sunie, son of the late Pupa of Pang Village, Noklak District. Sources indicate that the incident occurred while the parties involved were engaged in illegal hunting, despite repeated prohibition orders issued by the Village Council and shared with neighboring villages and the concerned District Administration.
In a statement, the Council expressed its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and reiterated that hunting and fishing are strictly prohibited within its jurisdiction. The Council warned that any future violations will result in stern action by the customary court of Wapher Village.
The Council further clarified that it will not be responsible for any untoward incidents arising from illegal hunting or fishing within its territory in the future.
