Patkai Christian College commemorated its Choral Competition under the theme “Many Colors Paint the Rainbow,” with a celebration at Bundrock Auditorium in collaboration with TaFMA on September 21, 2024.

The event commenced at 4 p.m. with an opening prayer by Dr. Vivee Peseye, former Dean of Music, PCC. Khrieketu Kuotsu, Jubilee Core Committee Member, warmly welcomed all attendees.

The judges of the competition were Hito Kiho, Pfotokho Kayina, and Vimezo Iralu.

Abu Metha, the Advisor to the Chief Minister of Nagaland, speaking as the honored guest, called upon the youths and said, “Every individual has the capacity to make an impact and change the world. As long as you put in the hard work, the commitment, there is no reason why you cannot achieve what you have aspired, there’s no reason why dreams cannot come true.”

Expressing hope, he further said, “For too long, we have been known for violence and turmoil, it’s the young people like you today who have to tell new stories; stories of success, and excellence.”

“The world must know Nagaland for celebrating good things, for showing despite challenges, the blossoming of human spirits and human endeavor. For this to take place, we must unite and come together as Nagas,” he stressed.

The event also featured a special musical performance by The Nagaland Madrigal Singers.

He also announced that the top three winners would be given the opportunity to perform at the Hornbill Festival, 2024.

The choir competition was the highlight of the program, showcasing the exceptional musical talents of seven church choir groups, each presenting captivating performances. The sequence of performances was as follows:

1. Kohima Lotha Baptist Church, Conductor: Longshithung Ovung
2. Bethel Baptist Church, Tseminyu, Conductor: Senwachu Kath
3. Chakhesang Baptist Church, Diphupar B, Conductor: Johutsu Swuro
4. Kithagha Union Baptist Church, Tseminyu, Conductor: Philip Magh
5. Khedi Baptist Church, Kohima, Conductor: Khriezenuo Suokhrie
6. Lotha Baptist Church, Dimapur, Conductor: Avoni Odyuo
7. Oriental Theological Seminary, Conductor: Thujoi Rhakho

Abu Metha and Theja Meru handed over the awards to the winners. After a lively competition, Kithagha Union Baptist Church, Tseminyu, under the direction of Philip Magh, was declared the winner of the choral competition with a cash reward of Rs 1,25,000 and a certificate of appreciation.

Second position was awarded to Bethel Baptist Church, under the direction of Senwachu Kath, winning a cash reward of Rs 1,00,000 and a certificate.

Third position was awarded to Khedi Baptist Church, under the direction of Khriezenuo Suokhrie, with a cash prize of Rs 75,000 and a certificate.

Additionally, Oriental Theological Seminary’s conductor, Thujoi Rhakho, was awarded Best Conductor with a cash prize of Rs 20,000 and a certificate.

The committee announced that the winner would be performing on November 2 at the Grand Finale of Patkai’s Golden Jubilee 2024.
