The 6th Batch of the School Leadership Development Program (SLDP) commenced at SIEMAT Hall in SCERT, Kohima, on September 10. Aimed at equipping school leaders with relevant skills and enhancing their governance and capacity, the one-month SLDP training is organized by the School Leadership Academy, SIEMAT, SCERT, in collaboration with the Nagaland Education Project – The Lighthouse (NECTAR).

During the brief inaugural program, Benjungdenla Yaden, Reader at SCERT, provided an overview of the program and emphasized that, unlike other training programs, SLDP is highly interactive and participant-centric. Participants will be assessed based on their engagement and will receive a certificate only if they meet the required credit points.

Wonthungo Tsopoe, Director of the Directorate of School Education, stated that effective school leadership is crucial for ensuring quality education in schools. He highlighted the essential role of school leaders in achieving the State’s educational objectives and goals. Tsopoe noted that school leaders are key drivers of change and transformation and stressed the need for professional leadership training to equip them with the skills and strategies required to fulfill their responsibilities effectively.

Avelu Ruho, Joint Secretary of the School Education Department and Deputy Project Director of the NECTAR Project, emphasized that the SLDP is a compact yet comprehensive program. She encouraged participants to share best practices and take advantage of the opportunity to learn from each other.

The ongoing SLDP batch will conclude with project work submissions and an online valedictory program on October 9, 2024. This program is one of several initiatives by NEP-The Lighthouse (NECTAR) aimed at improving the quality of education, teaching practices, capacity building, and learning environments in government schools across the state.
