The Assam Rifles on Monday tendered an apology for the incident that occurred on August 9, following a coordination meeting convened by the Deputy Commissioner of Kohima at his official residence.

The meeting was called to discuss and resolve the issue that arose over the incident between the President of Angami Students’ Union (ASU) and Assam Rifles soldier of IGAR North, D Block, Kohima on 9 August.

The meeting was attended by members from both parties, including Maj Gen Manish Kumar, IGAR (N), and Col BJS Sidhu, SO to IGAR (N). ASU leaders, Angami Public Organization president Thejao Vihienuo, and ADC Kohima Rhosietho Nguori were also present in the coordination meeting.

According to the meeting minute signed by the Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, Kumar Ramnikant IAS, the Assam Rifles soldier expressed deep regret and apologized for the incident with the president of the Angami Students’ Union while on duty, and having inadvertently hurt his and the sentiment of the Angami Students’ Union.

With the apology offered, all prior statements related to the issue were declared null and void, and the matter was amicably resolved.

“Having tendered apology, all clarification statements over the issue stands null and void and the whole issue stands amicably resolved,” the meeting minutes read.
