The women’s team of the Nagaland Tug of War Association (NTWA) returned home after winning the Bronze Medal in the Senior Women 500 Kg category at the 38th Senior National Tug of War Championship held at Shirdi, Maharashtra, from 22 to 25 August 2025.

Team Manager Kuzhovesa Soho stated that eight women athletes, accompanied by two officials, represented Nagaland at the championship, fully sponsored by Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio.
Team Nagaland clinched the Bronze Medal after defeating Uttar Pradesh in two consecutive pulls. The women’s team, participating for the first time in the championship after a two-week preparation, showcased their strength and skill to bring pride to the state.

The team was led by Kuzhovesa Soho as Team Manager and Vemele Thingo as Team Coach. The athletes included Vikehenuo Zumvu (Captain), Vekhonielu Curhah, Haizuyile, Thejaneinuo Thevo, Sezolu Luruo, Medongunuo Thevo, Neivi Metha, and Keneithonuo Sanchu.

As part of celebrating their victory, the team visited Wet & Joy Water Park in Shirdi on 25 August, followed by a short Thanksgiving fellowship prayer. Team Manager Kuzhovesa Soho acknowledged the tireless efforts of the athletes and Coach Vemele Thingo for their dedication and for bringing acclaim to Nagaland.

The team extended special gratitude to Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio for sponsoring the championship and conveyed indebtedness to NTWA President Dr. Er. Vekho Swuro for providing logistics support from the beginning. They also expressed appreciation to 13 Assam Rifles Commandant Col. Tarun Rana and his officers for providing training grounds and facilities since June, which benefitted both the women’s national team and the men’s international team.

The NTWA called on the people of Nagaland to continue their support and cooperation in future endeavors.
