The Research Cell and IQAC, Capital College of Higher Education, organized a one-day Faculty Development Program (FDP) on 1st February 2025 under the theme “Rethinking Assignments: Designing Tasks that Enhance Student Engagement.”


The introductory session was chaired by Chubarenla Longkumer, Head of the Department of Political Science, with the opening prayer led by Vevohu Kezo, Vice-Principal, CCHE. Opangmenla Jamir, IQAC Coordinator, introduced the theme of the FDP, emphasizing the importance of well-structured academic tasks in fostering deeper student engagement and critical thinking.

The technical sessions provided valuable insights into designing effective assignments. The first technical session was on the topic, “The Importance and Principles of Effective Assignments,” with Zokho Venuh, Principal, CCHE, as the resource person, while Shedulu Kezo, Assistant Professor, Department of Education, was the moderator. Venuh highlighted how well-designed assignments contribute to student learning outcomes, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. The second technical session was on the topic, “Designing Effective Assignments,” and Rukulu Kezo, Head of the Department of English, was the resource person. She focused on the practical aspects of assignment design, ensuring that tasks are both engaging and pedagogically sound. The session was moderated by Kumuni Keppen, Assistant Professor, Department of History, who guided the discussion and facilitated interactive exchanges.

The interactive session, moderated by Khrielakuo Kets, Assistant Professor, Department of History, provided faculty members with an opportunity to engage in collaborative discussions, share best practices, and seek clarifications on assignment-related challenges. Participants actively exchanged ideas on making assignments more engaging, inclusive, and aligned with learning objectives.

During the closing session, Abeino Zashu, Academic Dean, delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the speakers, moderators, and participants for their contributions. The event also marked the release of Academic Assignment Writing in APA Format: A Guide for Undergraduate Students, published by the Research Cell. The book was officially launched by the Principal. The program concluded with a closing prayer by Tatongkala Lemtur, Dean of Students.
