The 12th edition of the Nagaland Veterans’ Football Tournament concluded on February 14 at Mhainamtsi Football Ground, Peren. The tournament was hosted by the Peren District Veterans’ Football Association (PDVFA) under the aegis of the Nagaland Veterans’ Football Association (NVFA) from February 11 to 14, 2025.

Speaking on the occasion as the Guest of Honor, Dr Tumda Newme, General Secretary of the Tenyimi Union Nagaland, emphasized the urgent need to preserve Naga culture, traditions, and distinct ways of life. However, he pointed out that tribalism has unconsciously taken deep root among the Nagas, often prioritizing individual tribal interests over the collective good. He warned that if this issue is not addressed through conscious efforts to curb its negative impact, a time may come when Nagaland will become ungovernable. Therefore, he urged NVFA, as an independent organization with no tribal affiliations, to take the lead in spreading awareness about tribalism within Naga society.
The program began with an invocation prayer by Ilanggwangbe, Pastor of MBC, while Icamceube compered the event. Kenlumyile entertained the crowd with a special melody, and later, Dr Hedungkiebe, Peren District Representative to NVFA, delivered the vote of thanks.
The event also featured a special appearance by Dr N Nicky Kire, former Advisor for Urban Development & Municipal Affairs, who attended both the inaugural and closing functions. Additionally, several officers from various districts participated as players and managers.
A total of six districts participated in the tournament: Kohima, Dimapur, Niuland, Peren, Mokokchung, and Mon. In the final match, Kohima defeated Dimapur 2-0 to claim the championship title, walking away with the Championship Trophy and a cash prize of Rs 50,000. Dimapur, the runners-up, received a trophy and Rs 30,000, while Peren, the lone semi-finalist, was awarded Rs 15,000.
The Organizing Committee expressed its sincere gratitude to all individuals, groups, and organizations who contributed financially, materially, and physically to making the tournament a grand success.
