Kohima Law College organised its first Cultural Day at the State Academic Hall, Kohima, under the theme “Bridging Culture: Celebrating Diversity and Inspiring Through Tradition.”

The event marked a significant initiative to promote cultural awareness and unity among students.

Speaking at the programme, Dr Sentikumla, Assistant Professor in the Department of Law at Nagaland University, underscored the importance of preserving cultural heritage, particularly among the younger generation. She said culture plays a fundamental role in shaping identity and fostering social cohesion, adding that nurturing traditions strengthens a sense of belonging and ensures continuity across generations.

Highlighting the legal dimension of cultural preservation, she referred to Article 371A of the Constitution of India, which provides special protection to the cultural and customary practices of Nagaland. She noted that the provision safeguards religious and social practices, customary laws, and traditional institutions, demonstrating that law can serve as an instrument for preserving cultural identity rather than diminishing it.
