The Kohima Lotha Eloe Ekhüng, a Lotha Naga women’s organization, successfully organized a one-day seminar focusing on “Mental Awareness and Parenting” and “General Well-being of Women” in the state capital. The event, held on Saturday, aimed to address pressing issues concerning mental health, parenting, and the overall well-being of women.
The seminar shed light on the rising prevalence of depression and anxiety among young people, as highlighted by Areni Tungoe, a Research Scholar and recipient of the Prof. Erika Voigt Young Scientist Award 2021. Tungoe expressed concern over the alarming number of young individuals falling victim to mental health challenges. She emphasized that issues such as bullying, body-shaming, and substance abuse, specifically the consumption of ganja, were major problems plaguing today’s youth. Tungoe stressed the urgency to tackle these issues promptly and implement effective preventive measures.
Addressing the gathering, W Nyanchumi Kithan, a former women leader from the Kohima Lotha Baptist Church, emphasized the various spiritual and physical responsibilities of women as wives and mothers. She highlighted the importance of women’s holistic well-being and encouraged attendees to prioritize self-care and mental wellness while juggling their roles and responsibilities.
The seminar witnessed a strong turnout, with approximately 200 women in attendance.
