Kohima, January 25 (MTNews): The Administrative Building of the Medical College, Kohima will be completed before May 2023, Y Kikheto Sema, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary of Health & Family Welfare Department said during a meeting convened today in the conference hall, Directorate of H&FW with the officers and staff of the office.

 

“The boys and girls hostels will complete before April 2023; the Sports complex will be taken over by February 2023; the quarters for the Dean, Director and staff are almost finished; and the library and teachers common room will be taken over by June 2023,” he said and assured that the medical College will start before the academic session.

 

During the meeting, Sema thanked the officers and staff of H&FW for working tirelessly during the inaugural of the 10-bedded ICU hospital on January 6, 2023. He thanked officers for taking the initiative of talking to the donors and partners.

 

Sema said that the state government desires to provide accessible and affordable health care to all the citizens and encouraged the officers and staff to extend their cooperation in the future also.

 

Sema said that the purpose of setting up a 10-bedded ICU hospital is to make health care accessible to the people living in far-flung areas and that the State is planning to expand 4 (four) more ICUs in the remaining districts.

 

“Even though our State is a resourceful State, we need the help and assistance of other investors like the World Bank and JICA which will further strengthen our healthcare system,” he said.

 

Regarding awareness campaigns and programs, Sema said that awareness programs on tobacco should be given as the State is seeing a rise in tobacco-related cancer. He said that the program officers should keep close contact with the Central Ministry regarding these campaigns.

 

During the meeting, a “Tobacco Free Pledge” was also taken declaring the Directorate of H&FW, Health Centres, District Hospitals, Primary Health Centres, sub-centers, Chief Medical Officer Offices, and Medical Superintendent Offices as Tobacco Free Zone.

 

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (NIMSR) and NHAK in presence of Y. Kikheto Sema, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary, H&FW and Dr Temjentsungla, Principal Director, H& FW affiliating NHAK as a teaching hospital for NIMSR.

 

 

During the meeting, a welcome speech was given by Dr Temjentsungla, Principal Director, H&FW, a Vote of Thanks was given by Dr Vibeituonou Mepfuo, Managing Director NHAK, and a short speech by Prof Dr Soumya Chakraborty, Director cum Dean, Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (NIMSR).
