Kohima Police on Saturday announced the rescue of a minor girl from a prostitution racket in the capital city, following a suo motu FIR registered at Kohima Women Police Station on August 30 during a missing person enquiry.
Acting on credible intelligence, police traced the victim to a hotel in Kohima, where she was rescued and provided with immediate medical assistance and counselling. Investigators said the girl disclosed that she had been coerced into prostitution and sexually exploited by multiple individuals.
Based on her statement, police apprehended 31-year-old Neisedenuo Thuphre, who admitted to involvement in prostitution and confirmed that she worked under the main accused, 32-year-old Rakesh Bromo, who allegedly coordinated the network. Police said Rakesh Bromo acted as the mastermind, arranging clients primarily from Guwahati and Shillong, while Neisedenuo recruited girls and personally exploited some victims.
A coordinated team from North Police Station and Women Police Station, led by the officer-in-charge of Women PS, conducted raids that resulted in multiple arrests. Authorities confirmed that nine people, both locals and non-locals, have been arrested and remanded to judicial custody. The suspects are accused of acting as pimps, organizers, and agents facilitating the trade.
Kohima Police said the racket trafficked and exploited vulnerable girls across several locations in the city. The investigation is ongoing to identify additional members of the network and trace wider linkages.
The police reiterated their “zero-tolerance policy towards crimes against women and children” and affirmed their commitment to dismantling organized trafficking networks. Authorities have also appealed to the public to come forward with any information that could aid the investigation, assuring that informants’ identities will be kept confidential.
