Ale Apon and Senevelü of Rüzhükhrie Government Higher Secondary School, Kohima, on Monday received the Late Sudha Das Meritorious Award for Girl Student for excelling in the recently declared HSLC exam results under the Nagaland Board of School Education.

The event was held in the presence of Sourav Roy, husband of Late Sudha Das; her cousin and President of the Nagaland Gorkha Association, Nobin Pradhan; Principal of RGHSS, CK Bharti; and other well-wishers.

Gorkha Public Panchayat Kohima President Santu Thapa and retired government teacher Budha Lama handed over the awards during a brief programme held at the school auditorium on May 26.

The award, which carries cash prizes of Rs 50,000 and Rs 40,000 along with citations, was instituted for the top two girl students of RGHSS for excellence in the HSLC examination.

Ale Apon scored 88.5% marks to receive the top award, while Senevelü secured 77.4% and received the second award.

Both recipients shared their experiences of success, appreciated the family of Late Sudha Das for instituting the award, and thanked the teachers of RGHSS for their support.

In his brief address, Sourav Roy spoke about the objective of the award and mentioned that the school was chosen because Late B.K. Das, father of Late Sudha Das, was a former Headmaster of RGHSS.

RGHSS Vice Principal Sedengunuo Solo also delivered a short speech, while Pradhan announced that although the award was initially instituted for a period of three years, the family has decided to continue it.

RGHSS teacher Thenulenuo chaired the program, while teacher Denuvi offered a prayer, and RGHSS students enthralled the gathering with a special performance.
