Kohima, 10 July (MTNews): A joint coordination meeting of the Kohima District Task Force and the flying squad team had a meeting on the enforcement of the ban on Single Use Plastics (SUP) at the DC’s conference Hall on 7 July.

 

The meeting deliberated on the use of drinking water bottles at government offices and following the notification from the Government, it was decided to enforce the already existing ban on drinking water bottles below 20 liters at Government offices in Kohima district as well as Government programs and meetings.

 

The meeting also decided to enforce the revised penalty on SUP defaulters. As per the revised penalty, a fine of Rs. 5000 will be imposed for the first offense, Rs 10000 for the second offense, and Rs 20000 for the third offense.

 

Kohima Municipal Council was also advised to intensify checking of SUP in its jurisdiction and to encourage the use of paper carry bags.

 

The sub-divisions of the district were also requested to initiate awareness programs for sensitizing the masses and to set up action plans to discourage the use of SUP.

 

The meeting also decided to intensify the checking of the wholesale marketers and the printing presses printing flex banners.
