In light of the deteriorating condition of National Highway-29 at Chainages KM 175.100 and KM 175.350 near the old Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) dumping site, the Deputy Commissioner of Kohima has issued an order regulating vehicular movement along the affected stretch to ensure public safety.
The order, issued by Deputy Commissioner B. Henok Buchem, comes as a continuation of the previous directive dated July 16, 2025, and outlines a set of traffic restrictions effective immediately.
According to the order, movement of light motor vehicles (LMVs) that are non-transport in nature will be allowed from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, but only under permissible weather conditions. In the event of adverse weather, authorities will impose immediate restrictions. No vehicular movement will be permitted along the affected stretch during night hours.
The directive imposes a total restriction on the movement of heavy vehicles, including water tankers, paramilitary vehicles, commercial passenger vehicles, and compact or mid-sized pick-up vehicles.
To facilitate continued travel and essential movement, the district administration has designated alternative routes. For vehicles traveling from Kohima to Dimapur, the Jotsoma Bypass road is to be used by LMVs. For traffic heading from Dimapur to Kohima, both LMVs and HMVs are to take the Peducha Bridge–Tsiesema (10 Mile) road. Additionally, all paramilitary vehicle movement is to be routed only through the Peducha Bridge–Tsiesema route.
“This order is issued to ensure public safety and the smooth execution of emergency operations and restoration work. Violation of this order shall be liable for prosecution under relevant sections of law,” the Deputy Commissioner ordered.
