The Kom Tribe Council has vehemently condemned a recent statement made by the Komrem Region NSCN/GPRN, which erroneously declared that the Kom people have “emerged” (merged) as Naga. In a strong rebuttal, General Secretary, Kom Tribe Council in a statement warned the Komrem Region and all concerned parties against making such declarations without the prior knowledge and consent of the Kom people.
“Any further attempts to misrepresent our identity will be met with swift and decisive action,” it stated. The Kom Tribe Council further asserted that the Kom people are a distinct and separate tribe, possessing their own unique culture, tradition, and identity. “We will not tolerate any attempts to compromise or erase our identity for political or ideological purposes,” it maintained.
