Upholding the demand for the implementation of Nagaland’s state job reservation policy, the Konyak Union (KU) has reiterated that the policy “shall be implemented based on the population ratio,” highlighting the community’s marginalisation across employment opportunities.
In a representation submitted to the Chief Minister of Nagaland on September 30, 2020 (Ref No: KU/Apex/Gen/01/2020/-272), the union “categorically opined its stance” and acknowledged “critical justifications… on how Konyaks are being deprived in all fronts” due to government oversight. The representation further emphasized that such negligence has “cost the Konyak dearly being one of the populous and backward tribes in Nagaland.”
During its 45th General Session, the KU endorsed and supported the Konyak Students’ Union (KSU) initiative “for the job reservation policy to be reviewed as per the Population ratio which is a paramount and legitimate right of the Konyak.” The union urged that the students’ pursuit of the job reservation policy “may kindly be considered.”
The KU stressed that “this initiative is the peoples’ demand” and requires “political will to address this issue by legislation in the cabinet sitting to reform and reshaping the unfairness system in Job reservation policy in the state so long as the peoples trust in the mandated government.”
The representation was signed by Kyamao Konyak, President, and Wango Konyak, General Secretary of the Konyak Union.
