The Konyak Union Dimapur has expressed concern and condemnation of the wrongful arrest of two Konyak men in Dimapur last month by the 43 Assam Rifles branding them as NSCN cadres.
In a press release, the Konyak Union Dimapur said that Tahngao of Pukha Village, who is one of their bonafide executive members, and Nyemphoa of Neitong Village, who is the President of Neitong Village Students’ Union under Tizit subdivision of Mon district, were arrested on 27 September 2024 at two separate locations, one at railway station Dimapur and the other below railway Fly over bridge by the 43 Assam Rifles.
“The 43 Assam Rifles, despite fully knowing that the two are civilians arrested them by branding them as NSCN cadres, defaming not only those two but also the organization they serve in, just to obtain good remarks from their higher authority at the cost of the lives of innocent civilians,” the Konyak Union Dimapur said.
“Such high handedness of the so called ‘friends of the hills people’ is not only creating mistrust and distrust with the law enforcing agencies, but also causing fear psychosis amongst the hills people, which may have negative impact, not only to those arrested individuals but also their family members,’ it added.
The union appealed to the “law enforcing authority to be cautious while dealing with the lives of the innocent citizens of the country, be sincere in their duty and properly establish their identity before any arrest is made.”
The union also appealed to the “legal authority to kindly release the above mentioned individuals verifying the documents produced by Union, Village Council etc. etc without any conditions as they were wrongfully implicated by the 43 AR for their selfish and personal gain.”
