The Konyak Union (KU) Headquarters in Mon has confirmed the safe release of a KU official who was taken hostage by the NSCN-K (Yung Aung) faction operating across the Myanmar border.
An emergency meeting was convened today at the KU office, bringing together Presidents and Executive members from various units including Tobu, Mopong, Longchang, Aboi, Chen, Mon, Longshen, Phomching, Tizit, Wakching, Naginimora, and affiliated Konyak Civil Society Organizations.
The meeting followed the abduction of the KU official for reasons yet unknown.
The KU extended its gratitude to the Phomching Unit, Konyak Union Myanmar, Longwa Village Council, the Angh of Khanmoi Village (Myanmar), and the leaders of Gozu Village (Myanmar) for their prompt and effective intervention that facilitated the official’s release. The Union also acknowledged the cooperation of the NSCN-K (YA) faction in complying with KU directives.
Following discussions, the Konyak Union passed a resolution directing all armed factions to refrain from parading in uniforms or carrying weapons within Mon district. The Union emphasized that no faction should engage in abduction, threats, intimidation, or forceful demands under any circumstances.
The KU further warned that failure to comply with these directives would trigger immediate non-cooperation with offending factions. In such cases, the Union stated it would mobilize Konyak youth to designated locations to confront and neutralize any violations.
K Yamao Konyak, President, and Wango Konyak, General Secretary of the Konyak Union, signed the statement.
