Model Code of Conduct enforced in Mokokchung
The Election Commission of India on Sunday announced the by-election to the 28-Koridang Assembly Constituency under Mokokchung district.
According to the election schedule, the gazette notification for the by-election will be issued on March 16, 2026. The last date for filing nominations has been fixed for March 23, while scrutiny of nominations will take place on March 24. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is March 26.
Polling for the constituency will be held on April 9. The counting of votes is scheduled for May 4, while the election process is to be completed before May 6, as per the schedule.
Following the announcement of the bye-election, the Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer of Mokokchung, Ajit Kumar IAS, informed that the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has come into force with immediate effect across Mokokchung district.
Under the MCC, all political activities including rallies, public meetings and processions must strictly follow the guidelines issued by the election authorities. Any political gathering or procession must obtain prior permission from the competent authority.
The use of government machinery and resources such as government vehicles, buildings and other facilities for campaigning or political purposes by any political party or candidate has also been strictly prohibited.

Authorities stated that all provisions of the Model Code of Conduct issued by the Election Commission from time to time will be enforced across the district.
All political parties, intending candidates of the 28-Koridang Assembly Constituency, government departments, institutions, private organisations and the general public have been directed to ensure strict compliance with the MCC and cooperate with the district election machinery to ensure the conduct of the bye-election in a free, fair and peaceful manner.
Any violation will be dealt with strictly in accordance with the relevant provisions of election laws, the order stated.
