Authorities in Mokokchung on April 6 cancelled all permissions granted for setting up temporary party offices under the 28 Koridang Assembly Constituency, citing the prevailing law and order situation and the need to maintain peace and tranquility.
In an order issued in the evening, the Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer stated that the directive supersedes earlier permissions granted to contesting candidates at various locations across the assembly constituency. The order directed all concerned to ensure immediate compliance.
The latest directive follows two separate notifications issued earlier in the day, in which permissions for specific temporary offices in Longkhum village were withdrawn due to violations of stipulated conditions and concerns over law and order.
In the first instance, permission for a temporary office at House No. 76 near the AKM monument at Chungli Mepu, Longkhum, was cancelled. The application had been submitted by Merentemjen Jamir on behalf of Independent candidate Toshikaba.
In the second case, authorities withdrew permission for a temporary office at House No. 139 near the Baptist Church in Longkhum. The application was submitted by Kilangzulu for BJP candidate Daochier I Imchen.
The orders were issued by the Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil), Mokokchung, who is also the Returning Officer for the constituency. The broader order now nullifies all such permissions across the constituency.
