A Longkhum villager, identified as Imrongsungba Imchen, a supporter of BJP candidate Daochier I Imchen, is reported to have died following the pre-poll violence that occurred on April 5 and 6.

According to initial reports, Imrong succumbed to injuries while being referred to Dimapur for further treatment. He was shifted from Mokokchung District Hospital but died en route near Botsa Village.

Imrong is said to be a resident of Artang Ward, Mokokchung. Official confirmation regarding the circumstances of his death was awaited at the time of filing this report.

According to the police, the violence involved clashes between supporters of Major Toshikaba (Retd) and BJP candidate Daochier I Imchen in Longkhum Village ahead of the April 9 by-election.

Meanwhile, sources indicated that at least 16 individuals have been detained in connection with the clashes.

Police officials are yet to release an official statement, and further details are awaited as investigations continue.
