The 28 Koridang Assembly Constituency Congress Committee (ACCC) has announced that it will remain in “suspended animation” until further notice, expressing strong displeasure with the Congress high command over the appointment of the Mokokchung District Congress Committee (DCC) president.
In a statement issued on Monday, the ACCC said the decision was taken jointly by the constituency committee and the party’s rank and file following what it described as the arbitrary replacement of an earlier appointee for the post of DCC president.
According to the committee, the All India Congress Committee (AICC), following consultations conducted under the Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan, had appointed Imkongyanger as president of the Mokokchung DCC on March 30, 2026. However, it alleged that before he could assume charge, the party appointed I Temsu Jamir as DCC president on July 4 without formally revoking the earlier appointment or assigning any reason for the change.
The ACCC alleged that the decision reflected “high-handedness” and favoritism and showed disregard for long-serving party workers.
It said the development had deeply demoralized grassroots workers who had remained loyal to the Congress over the years.
Stating that the move amounted to a betrayal of the sentiments of party workers in the constituency, the committee said it believed the views of grassroots members should be taken into account while selecting key organisational leaders such as the district Congress president.
The committee further said it had repeatedly taken up the matter with party leaders and, on July 20, submitted a memorandum to the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) president seeking intervention.
Appealing to the Congress leadership to address the concerns of grassroots workers and consider the political dynamics in Mokokchung district, the ACCC said resolving the issue was important for strengthening the party ahead of the 2028 Nagaland Assembly elections.
The committee warned that if an amicable solution is not reached, it would have no option but to resign en masse.
At the time of filing this report, there was no immediate response from the NPCC regarding the allegations or the appointment process.
