The Konyak Union (KU) has raised concern over the growing drug menace in Mon district and called for the establishment of check gates in key border areas to curb trafficking and substance abuse among youth.
During a meeting with Director General of Police Rupin Sharma at the Police Headquarters in Kohima on April 7, the Union stressed the need for a coordinated and result-oriented mechanism to tackle the proliferation of narcotic substances, describing it as a serious threat to the safety and future of the younger generation.

Highlighting vulnerabilities along inter-state border areas, the Union urged the authorities to consider setting up additional check gates in strategic locations, including Longwa Village (towards Pongchao, Arunachal Pradesh), Kangnyu Village, Chen area, and Monyakshu Village in the Tobu area, to monitor movement, prevent cross-border trafficking, and dismantle drug networks.
Alongside the law and order concerns, the KU also raised issues related to police recruitment, appreciating the existing merit-based system while pointing out the challenges faced by aspirants with lower educational qualifications. It suggested exploring more inclusive mechanisms and also proposed reservation of a certain percentage of vacancies for sportspersons.
The Union further reiterated the need for strengthening infrastructure under the District Executive Force in Mon district, including the construction of a fully functional police station at Tiru and enhancement of manpower to improve policing capacity in the region.
