Kuki FC emerged as the champions of the second Peren District Football League (PDFL) and PDFA Cup 2024 after defeating league champions Lekie Mtei FC in the final on Saturday at New Jalukie village playground. The tournament was organized by the Peren District Football Association (PDFA) in collaboration with the New Jalukie Super League (NSL) from August 17 to September 7.

In a nail-biting final match, Kuki FC, who had previously lost to Lekie Mtei FC in the league, came back stronger to avenge their defeat with a 3-0 victory. In front of a packed crowd of around 8,000 spectators, both resilient teams displayed their football skills at a high standard. Kuki FC took the lead in the first half when Lamsanggin’s long-range shot from the right flank found the back of the net in the 33rd minute. Despite efforts from Lekie Mtei FC to equalize, they missed several opportunities and failed to break through.

In the second half, both teams returned with renewed spirit to claim the coveted title. Lekie Mtei missed further chances to equalize, while Kuki FC gained momentum and doubled their lead in the 74th minute through another goal by Lamsanggin. Kuki FC sealed their victory in extra time when Mangkholen intercepted a cross inside the box amidst a crowded defense.

Lamginmang received a Yellow Card for foul play, and Khamlou Man of the Match was awarded by Lamsangging Hangsing. The closing ceremony was graced by Mughato Sumi, Vice President of the Nagaland Football Association, and President of the Dimapur District Football Association, as the special guest.

During his address, Mughato Sumi highlighted Peren’s role in producing the highest number of talented football players in Nagaland. He praised the organizers for successfully managing the league despite challenging ground conditions, emphasizing the importance of consistency in professionalism. Sumi also called upon elders and potential financial supporters to appreciate the PDFA’s efforts in promoting football in the district. He attributed the decline in football standards in the state to various issues affecting the game.

The special guest was accompanied by members of the Western Sumi Sports Association, Western Sumi Students Union, and Dimapur District Football Association.

The highest fans award was bagged by Kuki FC while the highest Instagram followers award was bagged by Nchangram Lun FC.
