Says Kuki contribution to Naga Movement has been sidelined
C Singson, MCL, GPRN/NSCN from the Kuki Region and signatory to several historic peace efforts, has issued a statement calling for a renewed spirit of unity among Naga political groups under the leadership of N Kitovi Zhimomi, Convenor of the Working Committee (WC), NNPGs. In a signed document titled “Policy for Re-unification & Statement”, Singson reflected on the political marginalization of Kukis and appealed for a course correction through re-unification.
“Having observed the Nagas’ decadal political twist and turn of events amid the complexity and multiplicity of mushrooming factions and defections in the national struggle for self-determination,” Singson wrote, “our selfless labour and participation is being reduced to almost unnoticeable grim statistic.”
He recalled that Kukis were part of the Naga political foundation, stating that “ever since the Parent Body NNC selection of Pu Late Seikhohen and Pa Late Lengjang, both hailing from Kuki community, as Zezhabo drafting committee member and Simon Commission signatory respectively,” the community had played a significant role.
Yet, he lamented, “the fate and future political stature of the Kukis of Nagaland have so far been sidelined and belittled as if no better than they were in the bud.”
Singson also highlighted his role in the 2009 reconciliation process, writing: “Veteran as I am now that having come across the subsequent peace and reconciliation exercise led by FNR to conclude the first-ever historic factional anti-fratricidal agreement in 2009 as a signatory, my desperate and humble attempt to sustain the goal with blood and tears with heavy investment of trials and tribulations in the journey” has not translated into rightful recognition for the Kuki people.
“Swayed socially and charged emotionally under such circumstance,” Singson said, “I seek today for the best way forward to be the panacea for all ills to me in the process of Naga political solution hung ahead.”
He declared support for a collective shift in allegiance towards the WC, NNPGs, stating: “I have found no other better political slogan than the only clarion call for re-unification in the spirit of reunionism with like-minded old and new Naga national workers and leaders together shift allegiance to the leadership of Eno. N. Kitovi Zhimomi as Convenor, Working Committee (NNPG), in upholding the sanctity of the Agreed Position with GoI, Nov. 17, 2017.”
