In a nationwide virtual ceremony held on Tuesday, the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) disbursed margin money subsidies worth Rs 300 crore to 11,480 beneficiaries in the service sector under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP). The disbursement corresponds to loan sanctions amounting to Rs 906 crore.
The event was conducted from KVIC’s Rajghat office in New Delhi and presided over by KVIC Chairman Manoj Kumar. Also present were CEO Roop Rashi and other senior officials from the central office. The subsidy was credited directly to beneficiaries’ bank accounts through the virtual platform.
Speaking at the occasion, Chairman Manoj Kumar remarked, “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the vision of a self-reliant and developed India is being realized, and PMEGP has emerged as a strong pillar of this journey.” He described the scheme not only as a financial support system but as “a social movement connecting lakhs of youth, women and artisans with self-employment and entrepreneurship.”
The margin money disbursed spanned all six zones of the country:
Central Zone: Rs 72 crore disbursed for 2,403 projects across Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Uttarakhand. Loan sanctioned: Rs 218 crore.
Eastern Zone: Rs 22 crore for 996 projects in Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Loan sanctioned: Rs 71 crore.
Northern Zone: Rs 61 crore for 2,713 projects in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Rajasthan, and Chandigarh. Loan sanctioned: Rs 184 crore.
North-East Region: Rs 2 crore to 81 projects across Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura.
Southern Zone: Rs 116 crore for 4,565 projects in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry. Loan sanctioned: Rs 343 crore+.
Western Zone: Rs 26 crore disbursed for 722 projects in Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Goa. Loan sanctioned: Rs 82 crore.
Since its inception, PMEGP has facilitated the creation of 10.18 lakh micro enterprises, with total sanctioned loans amounting to Rs 73,348 crore. Margin money subsidies of Rs 27,166 crore have been disbursed, generating over 90 lakh direct and indirect employment opportunities across India, according to KVIC data.
