The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Mokokchung, conducted a training programme on tomato processing at Longkhum village under the Farm Sector Promotion Fund supported by NABARD. The programme was sponsored by the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Mokokchung, and was attended by tomato farmers and members of National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM) self-help groups.

Speaking at the programme, ATMA Deputy Project Director Rongsennungla commended tomato farmers for their contribution to tomato production in the district and the state. She encouraged them to increase production while addressing post-harvest losses, which she said account for about 20 to 25 per cent of the total harvest.

“Value addition of tomato is the best option” to reduce such losses, she said, highlighting products such as dried tomatoes, puree, powder, ketchup and sauces. She urged participants to apply the knowledge gained during the training and explore collaborations that could make tomato cultivation more profitable.
