Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Mokokchung conducted a one-day training program for the Watsutelen and women farmers of Salulemang on November 7, focusing on citrus cultivation. Salulemang, a village renowned for its citrus production for many decades, faces problems mainly due to mismanagement and the absence of scientific management practices.

To boost production qualitatively and make farmers aware of the problems and their scientific solutions, Dr. Martha Chakruno (ACTO, Entomology) deliberated on the topic of biological pest management. She demonstrated various pests affecting citrus, explained their damage symptoms for proper identification, and discussed in detail the management strategies to be followed. Other methods such as painting tree trunks with Bordeaux paste, spraying biological agents and neem oil, and installing yellow sticky traps and pheromone traps were also discussed, with hands-on demonstrations for the farmers.
Imtilemla (ACTO, Soil Conservation) spoke on soil and water conservation in watershed areas. She highlighted the issue of soil erosion in the district caused by rainfall and explained different methods to manage and utilize runoff effectively through soil conservation measures.
She further emphasized the importance of soil health and nutrient management, which contribute significantly to citrus production. A presentation was given to help farmers differentiate between pest damage and nutrient deficiency symptoms. Participants were also sensitized to the technology of balanced nutrient management and proper application techniques for citrus cultivation.
