Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Mokokchung on Tuesday concluded its month-long ‘Khet Bachao Abhiyaan’ campaign at Aopenzu village under Tuli block in collaboration with the BJP Kisan Morcha, marking the culmination of a nationwide initiative aimed at promoting sustainable agriculture and improving soil health.
The campaign, which began on June 1, was conducted in two sessions. The first focused on creating awareness among farmers, while the second provided technical training and hands-on demonstrations on natural farming practices, soil health management and the preparation of bio-inputs such as Jeevamrit and Beejamrit.
Welcoming the officials and participants, the Village Council Chairman of Aopenzu expressed gratitude for organising the programme and urged farmers to make the best use of such initiatives and learn from experts.
Senior Scientist and Head of KVK Mokokchung, Dr Keviletsu Khate, highlighted various Government of India schemes implemented for the welfare of farmers. He discouraged the use of weed killers containing glyphosate and encouraged farmers to adopt scientific technologies and sustainable agricultural practices to maintain soil fertility and improve production.
“The Aos, being pioneers in many fields, should leave a good trait in the field of agriculture too by embracing sustainable agriculture,” he said.
State President of BJP Kisan Morcha Nagaland, Imna Lemtor, said Tuli block and Aopenzu village have significant agricultural potential and can benefit greatly from natural farming practices, which require lower chemical inputs while producing healthier yields.
The programme also featured technical sessions on natural farming and soil health management, followed by an interactive question-and-answer session between farmers and experts. The month-long campaign concluded with the distribution of literature, seeds and agricultural inputs to participants.
