Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Mokokchung conducted Front Line Demonstration (FLD) training on paddy cultivation. FLD is a mandated activity of the Kendra, where proven agricultural technologies are demonstrated for adoption by farmers. As part of this initiative, Front Line Demonstrations using different biofertilizers and dual cropping with Azolla for lowland paddy were conducted for farmers in Aliba and Kinunger on July 10th and 17th respectively. The trainers, Imtisenla (ACTO-Agronomy) and Imtilemla (ACTO-Soil Conservation), led the sessions.
Farmers were advised to use line sowing with proper spacing to promote healthy growth, ease of operations, and optimum tillering, which are expected to enhance grain yield. Additionally, effective soil management techniques in nurseries for healthy seedling growth were recommended. The use of biofertilizers such as Azospirillum, phosphate, and potassium-solubilizing bacteria was demonstrated through seedling root dip overnight before transplanting. Farmers were briefed on the numerous benefits and advantages of adopting these technologies, and biofertilizers and extension folders were distributed.
The potential of dual cropping with Azolla, a floating nitrogen-fixing plant, was highlighted to farmers as a method to increase paddy yield. Azolla proliferates rapidly during the rainy season and serves as an effective weed control measure.
Furthermore, the many other usage of Azolla for poultry, fish, cattle and azolla compost were also highlighted. Altogether 17 farmers participated in the program.
