Mokokchung, 24 February (MTNews): Nagaland University Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Zunheboto conducted an input distribution program on 23 February under the Tribal Community Development project at Beisumpuikam Village in Peren district, a press release received here said.
The welcome speech was delivered by Mr Wapangtoshi Longkumer, Chief Technical Officer. Dr Rakesh Kumar Chaurasia, Principal Scientist, and Head/PI of the Project, conducted a training program on the Production and Management of Rainbow Rooster.
It was mentioned that these birds are dual-purpose breeds with a good growth rate and high production potential. They can be reared in both intensive and semi-intensive systems, fetching a premium price in the market due to their resemblance to local birds.
Farmers were trained on poultry farming and various managerial practices involved in raising the birds, from brooding to marketing, including disease management.
Later, 54 farmers were provided with day-old chicks of Rainbow Rooster and poultry feeds so that they could learn through practical experience and later take up poultry as an enterprise.
