Zunheboto, 31 October (MTNews): In an effort to enhance farming productivity and empower local agricultural communities, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Zunheboto, under Nagaland University, has taken a pioneering step by providing advanced farm tools to farmers in Satami Village, Suruhoto block of Zunheboto district. The initiative is made possible through sponsorship by the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi, under the North Eastern Hill (NEH) component and is being implemented by KVK, Zunheboto.
Farm implements play a pivotal role in modern agriculture, not only reducing production costs but also ensuring the quality of agricultural produce and time-saving. On October 30, 2023, Dr Rakesh Kumar Chaurasia, Principal Scientist, and Head of KVK, Zunheboto, distributed power-operated winnowers and Pusa Wheel Hoes to local farming communities.
The power-operated winnower, a state-of-the-art machine developed by the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (Pusa), is a game-changer for farmers. This ingenious equipment is designed to alleviate the burden of grain cleaning, separating unwanted substances from grains, and ensuring premium quality produce with ease.
According to the Principal Scientist, one of the critical steps in grain processing and value addition is cleaning, and this machine emerges as a powerful solution for this purpose. Its key features include high-quality cleaning, effective dust and particle removal, and time and cost-efficiency, ultimately contributing to higher-quality yields for local farmers.
“Pusa Wheel Hoe is a very simple and useful implement for weeding in between lines of standing crops by which very efficient and effective weeding is possible. The advantages are useful for weeding and inter-cultural operations in row crops, angle of operation can be adjusted according to the need, this can be used by giving forward and backward motion in standing posture, which results in less fatigue and cost-effective for weeding and inter-cultural operations,” stated a press note from the principal scientist.
