Heavy rainfall on the night of July 25 has triggered multiple landslides along the Japukong Range Road in Mokokchung district, completely blocking the vital route at several locations and severing connectivity between Mangkolemba sub-division and Longchem Block Headquarters under the Japukong range.

Reports confirm that a backhoe loader has been deployed and restoration work is currently in progress. However, at around the 19.80 km mark near Nokpu village, large boulders have obstructed the road, requiring controlled blasting to clear the way. Authorities have begun arrangements for rock breaking and removal in the affected stretch.

The Japukong Range Road is the only lifeline connecting Mangkolemba and Longchem, making today’s disruption particularly critical. Several villages in Longchem Block have been rendered inaccessible, compounding the difficulties faced by residents who rely on this route for transportation, supplies, and emergency services.

Restoration efforts are being undertaken with the support of local agencies, including the PWD (R&B) but sources stated that the scale of the damage poses significant logistical challenges.
