Tsungsanger Jamir of Mangmetong village, residing at Tongdentsüyong ward, Mokokchung is a bachelor’s degree holder from Fazl Ali College.
As a child, being fascinated by brushes and paints and having inspired from his sister who is also a painter, Asang confided into art as his part time activity. His love for painting reached a different juncture in 2017 when he met a group of artists in Kohima for an event where young artists were getting promoted.
“It’s where I met Akuvi Kiso, my mentor – to whom I owe a lot,” he recalled as he shared how his mentor, Akuvi helped him find new styles of art and painting and promoted his work.
“It’s because of him and his help, I found a place to pick up my God’s gifted talent and became financially independent, at least for the bare minimum,” he said.
In 2018, he joined Fazl Ali College in Mokokchung to pursue his bachelor degree where he came across more opportunities than he expected.
“Along with my studies, traces of art and the benefits of it came along. The college’s co-curricular activities both on and off campus peaked the influence of art in my life,” he added.
Asang is well acquainted with landscape paintings, portrait paintings and sketches, still life paintings, caricature art and tee shirt and shoe customization. “I earn from all those various kinds of works I do,” he shared.
He said his greatest achievement has been the completion of a 6×4ft still life painting on campus which took him about a month with at least 12-13 working hours a day.
Speaking about how he feels about his talent, a humble Asang said motivation and inspiration from other people’s work is what keeps him improving.
“I am definitely not the best. There are many amazing artists around the world and in our hometown alone. We inspire and motivate each other through the different works we do on different mediums. Just like I was inspired by someone, I owe this God’s blessing to inspire another person even in the smallest way possible,” he concluded.
