Molungnensang Imsong is a singer, song writer and a music composer from Changtongya village, Mokokchung.
Till now his discography accounts to 352 musical compositions and 60 original songs that have been released which are sung and written in Ao, English and Nagamese.
Growing up as a middle sibling along with his two other brothers, Molung’s ambition was to become a singer and a Theologian which inspired him to sing, pray and read the word of God relentlessly.
He recalled how ‘gifted’ he felt with his singing talent but being the ‘mischievous’ one in the family, he said, he was often left alone during his childhood days. It was only when he hit his teenage years, he firmly decided to be ‘disciplined’ by avoiding activities that were harmful.
But it was 2011, when in his sick bed; he discovered his talent of composing songs which stands as his testimony till date.
Today, after completing his Bachelor of Theology at Discipleship Bible College, Dimapur, he plans on focusing on his own music ministry. To know more about the extremely talented musician, here is a brief conversation with him.
MTNews: Thank you Molung for the time. So, your music is known for touching people’s hearts through your lyrics, melody and your amazing voice. Could you tell us what inspired you to make such soulful music?
Molung: The Spirit of God inspires me to write and compose songs in every situation of my life. Every experience of mine such as failure, rejection, success, happiness, etc. becomes songs. The feelings that cannot be expressed by words can be easily expressed through songs and that’s more powerful to communicate with anyone. It also provides me with the spirit of ‘enlightenment’.
MTNews: Out of the songs released which one is your favorite musical composition and what makes it your favorite?
Molung: Till today among the songs that have been released, “YA KÜ SARASADEM” (THIS IS MY PRAYER) is my favorite song. The song is dedicated to all the listeners and is also a song of ‘Gratitude’ to those people who assist me in times of need (financial, prayer, words of wisdom) and to those who helped me while I was sick. I remember them 4-5 times in my prayers every week.
MTNews: Do you think Gospel Artists in Nagaland can have a career?
Molung: Of course, Musicians and Singers in Nagaland can manage their life career through the gifts and talent he/she possesses. Though we don’t engage in Govt. job or full time job, we can feed our lives by working hard and utilizing our unique talent from God.
MTNews: According to you, what could be the most challenging aspect of composing music?
Molung: In my opinion, compositions of music from one’s own ‘life experiences’ could be more challenging and sweeter as it has to pour-out core beliefs to everyone.
MTNews: In music videos like “Moi Khan Laga Tonia” you have collaborated with Aienla Lemtur. How was your experience working with her?
Molung: Oya Aienla Lemtur is the Director at “Mizpah Prayer Home”, Dimapur. She is someone who is passionate about singing, so I have worked with her in like four of my songs in one album. However, she can’t comprehend parts like alto, tenor and bass; so, I let her go with the soprano. We do have lots of fun and I’m happy that she finds her satisfaction in glorifying God with me through our songs.
MTNews: Your song “Molumi” is one of people’s favorites and even mine. I’d really love to know what you were thinking when you were writing this song.
Molung: “Molumi” is a song where I had imagined myself to be in hell after living as a Christian because I failed to accept Jesus Christ as my Savior, served God for just for the sake of it, maintained certain prestigious status and allowed myself to submerge in jealousy. It’s a song of regret by a lukewarm believer who ended up in hell.
MTNews: You seem to be travelling a lot for shooting your music video. How are you managing your time and resources?
Molung: Well, almost all the time, I sing; be it on different programs including revival, weddings, and concerts and so on. And, in a way that has become my profession and that’s how I ended up earning for my livelihood as well.
MTNews: How do you see yourself in the next five or ten years?
Molung: I want to continue singing Gospel Songs till the day I die. I would love to exalt His name. I’ll just hope and believe that there will be people who will assist and support me in my music ministry and that we shall stand together for our God and for our community.
MTNews: Leave a message for your Fans and our Readers.
Molung: “A single tooth cannot grab out meat”. Likewise, without your support, I won’t be able to stand and handle alone even though I have this passion for singing. The popularity I earned today is because of the support I received from your prayers and support. Naked I came, naked I will go when my Savior calls me but my aim is to bring ‘lost souls’ to Christ and to witness that He is alive for I have certainly experienced ‘His’ existence in my life. Though we are not familiar with each other, I will always uphold you in my personal prayers. Thank you.
