Dimapur, November 21 (MTNews): The program for vocational courses in the Agri and Allied sector was formally launched at Living Bible College Ayinato, Vihokhu on November 21 with Y. Kikheto Sema, IAS Agriculture Production Commissioner gracing the inaugural program as the Special Guest.

He stated that of all the functions he had the opportunity to participate in, this was the most unique. He praised the college for taking the initiative to incorporate the vocational aspect of environmental sustainability. He challenged students and church leaders to incorporate the holistic approach of “Work and Eat” culture into the church and theological education.

“The soil, land, and environment are crying out for help, for humans to be responsible,” he said. He insisted that the church and the government work together to create a more sustainable ecosystem, economy, and climate.
He stated that a plan to lease out department farms to FPOs, FPCs, entrepreneurs, churches, and others in order for them to take up farming activities in a sustainable manner is being considered. State government departments cannot engage in farming or business that has not been determined to be feasible and viable, but they can provide logistical support, he said.

Prof. Akali Sema, NU SASRD, gave a keynote address introducing the vocational course. She emphasized that the National Educational Policy is moving towards vocational-oriented programs—“Multiple entries, Multiple exits.”

She also emphasized the importance of having basic agricultural and horticultural theory and practice skills such as farming practices, pest and disease management, postharvest management, and marketing skills. She also stated that Living Bible College is the first among Nagaland’s Bible Colleges to offer this vocational course in collaboration with NU SASRD.

According to her, the course is designed in such a way that it will not affect the regular classes of the institution. It was also made known that SASARD, NU helped in designing the course curriculum and syllabus.
