“Living Morung and Traditional Knowledge” programme held at Sangphur Village

The Department of Art and Culture today organised a programme on “Living Morung and Traditional Knowledge”, including Traditional Healing Practices and Indigenous Medicines, at Sangphur Village.

K. Rhakiumong, VCC, Sangphur Village, graced the occasion as special guest and stressed the urgent need to preserve and document traditional practices. He noted that many valuable cultural elements are vanishing and commended the department’s documentation efforts. He also urged the department to take major steps to record Naga tribal traditions and fast-disappearing practices.

The programme featured cultural performances by the Kewong Cultural Club and the Sangphur Village Cultural Troupe. Folktale narration was delivered by Z. Royim, festival narration by K. Ahoshne, and Morung and log drum narration by Z. Royim. A presentation on Yimkhiung shawls was made by Maching.

The inaugural address was delivered by Teisovikuolie Therie, Deputy Director, Department of Art and Culture. Resource persons for Traditional Healing Practices included T.S. Wongthung and K. Ahoshne, 2nd G.B, assisted by Y. Dhomong, C. Samuel, Shophu and Toji. Experience sharing was presented by Rev. Z. Thsankiu.

Appreciation certificates were distributed by Teisovikuolie Therie, while the vote of thanks was proposed by Kiumukam, Assistant Curator. The programme was chaired by Kiumukam, and Rev. Z. Thsankiu, Pastor, Sangphur Village Baptist Church, invoked God’s blessings.

A large number of participants from Sangphur and neighbouring villages attended the workshop.
