Nagaland’s Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) and President of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), S Supongmeren Jamir, today expressed serious concerns over the reimposition of the Protected Area Permit (PAP) and the reduction of the Free Movement Regime (FMR), stating that these issues could have a detrimental impact on the people of Nagaland.

Jamir emphasized that such actions contradict the government’s own policies and development goals. He pointed out that the government had initially introduced the ‘Look East Policy,’ which was later rebranded as the ‘Act East Policy,’ aimed at enhancing economic and diplomatic ties with neighboring countries. He questioned the logic of establishing an International Trade Centre if these restrictions were to hinder the flow of trade and tourism.

The MP noted that restrictions on tourists and related matters posed a significant concern, particularly when it comes to their effect on local communities. Jamir further clarified that these matters are not merely state issues but are tied to broader central government and international policies.
