Longjang: Youngsters told to be responsible global citizens

Longjang, October 26 (MTNews): Amenty Welfare and Educational Society, Longjang organized an environmental awareness program on Wednesday during which it conducted various activities including a plantation drive, environmental awareness talk and waste management under the theme ‘Responsible Global Citizen’ at Longjang village.

 

 

 

Imtongshilu Ao, the Managing Director of the Society while delivering the keynote address conveyed that in the era of 21st century, the “concept of global citizenship has become universal in terms of education.” He also said that, as the process of globalization is continuing at a very fast pace, everything is getting inter-connected with each other. He said in every growing dynamic community, it has become significant for a person to think about the role of each and every citizen. He encouraged the youths by saying that a global citizen is considered as a person who has the sense of civic responsibility towards their local community.

 

The resource person, Chubatsur Jamir, taking advantage of social media presented her thoughts through Zoom. She enlightened the youngsters through her presentation by addressing how a global responsible citizen should participate in order to keep the environment safe, clean and sustainable for future generations. She also presented her insights on waste management and the advantages of planting trees.

Imlisenla also talked on the causes and effects of environmental degradation and challenged the youngsters present to walk the talk in order to save the environment from “modern human activities.”

 

The event was followed by a plantation drive.
