The Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Longleng has informed the public that an outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) has been confirmed at a piggery farm in Yachem Village, resulting in the death of several pigs. Laboratory tests have verified the presence of the highly contagious viral disease.

To contain the spread of ASF, a 1 km radius around the affected farm has been designated as the infected zone, while a 10 km radius from the infected zone has been marked as the surveillance zone. In the interest of public health and animal safety, strict restrictions have been imposed until further notice. The movement, trade, export, import, and transportation of pigs, piglets, pork, and pig-derived products from the infected zone have been strictly prohibited.

Additionally, pig farms, markets, and slaughterhouses within the surveillance zone will be closely monitored, and the public has been urged to report any unusual pig deaths or suspected ASF cases to the local veterinary department immediately. The DC emphasized that cooperation from farmers, meat vendors, and the general public is crucial in controlling the outbreak. He also warned that failure to comply with these containment measures could result in legal action under relevant laws.
