Longleng, 1 October (MTNews): The Department of Social Welfare in Longleng celebrated the International Day of Older Persons on Sunday at the VDB Hall in Longleng, with the theme “Resilience of Older Persons in a Changing World.”
Deputy Commissioner of Longleng, Dharam Raj, highlighted the significance of this day, emphasizing that it is dedicated to ensuring the welfare of older individuals and ensuring they benefit from various government schemes. He stressed the importance of cherishing the rich history carried by senior citizens and urged society never to neglect or forget them.
In his keynote address, Sr Supervisor, Er T Shahnyu Phom explained that this day serves as a tribute to the lives and contributions of older persons to society. He also encouraged older individuals to bridge the generational gap and foster understanding between different age groups.
During the event, the Department honored P Phapen and B Angup Phom with the Senior Citizen Award.
International Day of Older Persons, observed annually on 1 October, recognizes the invaluable contributions of senior citizens while shedding light on the unique challenges they face.
