The Office of the Superintendent of Police (SP), Longleng, hosted a one-day training session on “Procedures to Handle Criminal Cases” for District Executive Force (DEF) personnel on May 26, 2025. The session aimed to strengthen the investigative and procedural skills of the local police force.

The training was led by Government Pleader-cum-Assistant Public Prosecutor H. Donyei Phom, who served as the primary resource person. He delivered a comprehensive curriculum designed to enhance the DEF’s understanding and application of legal protocols in criminal matters.

Throughout the session, H Donyei Phom meticulously covered a range of critical topics essential to effective law enforcement. Participants received detailed instruction on the proper procedure for filing a First Information Report (FIR)—the foundational document that initiates criminal proceedings.

The training also addressed the procedure of investigation, guiding officers through the systematic steps required for conducting thorough and legally sound inquiries.

Key components of police duties such as arrest procedures were discussed in detail, with an emphasis on compliance with legal standards and the protection of human rights. Additionally, the session provided crucial insights into the proper seizure of evidence, ensuring that materials collected are handled in accordance with legal norms to preserve their admissibility in court.

The training concluded with a focus on the prosecution of the accused and the process of obtaining prosecution sanction, equipping DEF personnel with a more holistic understanding of the judicial process that follows the investigation phase.

This training initiative reflects the Longleng SP office’s commitment to the continuous professional development of its personnel and its dedication to improving the efficiency and integrity of criminal case handling within the district.
