As part of the nationwide campaign “Safai Apnao, Bimari Bhagao” (SABB) under the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0, the Longleng Town Council organized an awareness program on cleanliness and sanitation practices at Government Middle School, Leinak, Longleng Town.
The program, held on August 7, 2024, featured a session led by Isaac P, Management of Information System Assistant (MISA) for Longleng Town Council. Addressing students and faculty, Isaac P emphasized the importance of tackling cleanliness and disease-related challenges, particularly during the monsoon season. He provided detailed explanations on how to manage stagnant water issues, which can lead to diseases such as dengue and malaria, and stressed the need for regular cleaning of drains, maintaining clean toilets, and ensuring safe drinking water.
The session highlighted the collective effort required to promote cleanliness and improve health standards, urging the school management to adopt and beautify garbage-prone areas. Isaac P also encouraged students to embrace the 3 Rs—Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle—by innovating with Waste to Wealth products.
The Safai Apnao, Bimari Bhagao initiative aims to strengthen the preparedness of Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in addressing the challenges posed by heavy rainfall and heightened health risks during the monsoon. The initiative calls for inter-departmental collaboration and convergence to effectively manage the multifaceted issues associated with cleanliness and disease prevention during the season.
The program began with an introductory note by Shumei Anthony, Headmaster of Government Middle School, Leinak, and was attended by DPA, NEP (The Lighthouse-Nectar) Peter Metchao, along with teachers and students.
