Longsa, 18 May (MTNews): A one day Farmers’ Awareness Program was organized by the District AgroMet Unit (DAMU) of Gramin Krishi Mausam Sewa, IMD established at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Mokokchung on 18 May at Longsa village under Ongpangkong North Block.

 

 

The day long program was on “AgroMet Advisory Services for Strategic Planning in Agriculture” spearheaded by Dr Keviletsu Khate, Senior Scientist & Head, Tokiho Achumi ACTO (Agronomy), Martha Chakruno ACTO (Plant Protection) and Ningshiyangerla Walling, SMS (Agrometeorology) as the resource persons.

 

Farmers were enlightened by the resource persons on AgroMet Advisory Services as first of its kind in the district, particularly for the farming community. It is to equip them to strategically plan their farming activities by harnessing the favorable weather events. Further deliberations covered the basic fulfillment and avenues for crop contingency planning, livestock management, pest and disease identification and management on the widely grown crops.

 

Extension teaching aids like: folders-MEGHDOOT: A mobile app to assist farmers for weather based farm management and IMD-Agro AWS; leaflets-Kisan Mobile Advisory Services (KMAS), a sample of AgroMet Advisory Bulletin were shared. This was followed by a field visit with a method demonstration on pest management in the crop field to add value to their deliberations.

 

Furthermore, with a productive interactive session altogether 21 farmers were put forth for KMAS.
