The Longsa Sports Association inaugurated the Golden Jubilee-cum-50th Imtimeren Open Volleyball Tournament 2026 at Salang Lenden, Longsa. The two-day tournament, themed “To Foster the Young Generation,” is being held to promote unity and build diplomatic relationships among neighbouring districts and villages through sports.

Metsübo Jamir, Minister of Rural Development & SIRD, Government of Nagaland, graced the occasion as the opening special guest. In his speech, Jamir praised the pioneers and leadership of the Longsa Sports Association for their efforts in organising the tournament. Recollecting Late Imtimeren Jamir, after whom the tournament is named, Jamir described him as a great statesman, an able politician, and an effective leader. He encouraged the players to give their best, not merely to win, but to foster oneness, which he said is the most important essence of sportsmanship.

The tournament is named after Late Imtimeren Jamir, a prominent leader and statesman from Longsa. I Temsü Jamir, speaking on behalf of the Imtimeren Open Volleyball Tournament sponsor’s family, stated that the trophy belongs to the entire Longsa village. He urged the teams to play fair, give their best, and promote oneness and unity.

Eight teams are participating in the 50th edition of the Open Volleyball Tournament. The opening match was played between Longsa Eagles Club and Lions Club Longsa B, with the latter emerging victorious. The final match is scheduled to be played on January 9, 2026. The closing ceremony will be graced by Supongmeren Jamir, Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha.
