Mokokchung, 24 December (MTNews): The Longsa Village Council (LVC) and its citizens, under the banner of Longsa Senso Mungdang, have expressed deep anguish and frustration over the lack of progress in the investigation of an extortion case involving one of their bonafide members.
According to a joint press release issued by the Longsa Village Council, Mokokchung, and the Longsa Senso Mungdang (LSM), two individuals claiming affiliation with the NSCN (K) Khango group entered the residence of Aolemba Longkumer at 7th Mile, Chümoukedima on December 16, 2024. Longkumer, a bona fide citizen of Longsa Village and a recipient of both the President of India’s Award and the Governor’s Award for his craftsmanship, was allegedly threatened and coerced into signing an undertaking to pay Rs 50 lakh within three days.
The incident reportedly unfolded in the presence of Longkumer’s minor child and elderly parents, leaving him no choice but to comply after over an hour of heated arguments. The ordeal was captured on CCTV, and the footage has been handed over to the investigating agency.
However, even after seven days, the LVA and the LSM has expressed dismay over the absence of tangible progress in the case. “It is beyond our comprehension how long innocent citizens of the state must remain under the threat of so-called national workers,” the council stated in a press release.
The council condemned the act as “barbaric” and called on the state police to act with sincerity and urgency. They demanded the immediate arrest of the culprits and the public disclosure of their identities, as captured in the CCTV footage.
“Human patience is running out; enough is enough,” the release warned, urging the authorities to restore public trust by ensuring swift justice.
